Unit Convention will be held on Saturday, September 30, at Unity
Church, 1717 North 73rd Street, which is the corner of Milwaukee
Avenue and 73rd Street in Wauwatosa. Registration begins at 8:30, the
convention will be from 9 to noon. Snacks and beverages will be
provided. A children’s and junior youth program is planned and there

Bicentenary Celebration Sunday October 22nd, committee update

“Changing the World, One Wall at a Time”

The Baha’is of Kenosha are sponsoring a screening of “Changing the
World, One Wall at a Time” at the Kenosha Public Library Northside on
September 9th from 3pm-4:45pm. The film chronicles artists and their
work on the #EducationIsNotACrime campaign. Below is a link to the

family in the Kenosha area, you are encouraged to share the event.
The film has a 55 minute run-time.

“In a formally-instituted state policy, the Iranian government bans
the Baha’is, Iran’s largest religious minority, from teaching and
studying in universities. Denial of education in Iran is a human
rights issue. Street art may not be the most obvious choice for

the World, One Wall at a Time” captures the story of this unusual
street art campaign and the history of the human rights issue behind

You are warmly invited to attend a Book 3 training for teachers of
Grade 3 on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, 2017. The weekend
is sponsored by members of the Training Institute in collaboration
with the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Madison.

This weekend study is designed to raise capacity for serving as a
teacher of classes for children. It will be essential that you have
already studied Book 3, Grade 1 and have taught most of the lessons of
Grade 1 with children. Experience with Grade 2 is a plus, but not
required.

We will study portions of the recent Training Institute document from
the International Teaching Center, and focus on preparation for
teaching the Grade 3 lessons. The goal is to increase the number and
quality of teachers and to increase capacity of tutors to train any
person, Baha’i or not, youth or adult, desiring to serve as a teacher
of children’s spiritual education based on the Teachings of
Baha’u’llah.

*Please register for training in Book 3, Grade 3 as soon as possible,
but no later than September 7.* The study will take place *Saturday,
September 16 and Sunday, September 17* at the Madison Baha’i Center
(324 W Lakeside St, Madison, WI 53715). We will meet from 8:30 am to
5:30 pm on Saturday. Sunday we will begin at 8:30 am and end at Noon.

The group From the Same Dust was started in October, 2014 with the intention of
working to make Baha’i communities more diverse, inclusive, and
welcoming. As time went on, the group began align with other groups to
organize community conversations and educational workshops for the
public. Combining development of Baha’i community life with
collaboration on social action projects, From the Same Dust has so far
held five structured community discussions, a Green Lake conference
workshop, and two educational sessions with invited speakers. Two
ongoing book discussion groups open to the public have spun off; both
starting with the book “A Safe Place to Talk About Race,” by our Baha’i
sister, Sharon E. Davis. In addition, From the Same Dust continues to
read and discuss Baha’i writings about unity and diversity.

The group has many plans but needs your support. Baha’i principles
are now known and admired by many fellow citizens who are
enthusiastically working with us. From the Same Dust has partnered
with area churches, a school group, and several business and community
organizations. It is helping the Zeidler Center apply for grant money
to support this work and is soliciting donations and in-kind support
from area businesses, faith groups, and others, but the amount they
can raise is uncertain. Your donations will allow for the Baha’is to
host more events in the future.

Among the upcoming events that need financial support and the
participation of Baha’is are:

* Co-sponsorship of a talk by Dr. Erin Winkler on “How to Talk to
Children about Race” on October 10, 2017.

* A follow-up community conversation with shared meal for 150 people,
facilitated by the Zeidler Center, to be held in Whitefish Bay in
January 2018.

* A panel discussion to be held in Whitefish Bay called “Demystifying
Black Lives Matter.”

* Friendly meetings with public officials and business leaders who are
also working toward racial diversity, inclusion, and justice.

* And future community events as resources allow.

As the National Spiritual Assembly said in its letter dated February
25, 2017: “our foremost responsibility is to everywhere affirm-in the
name of Baha’u’llah-the truth of the oneness of humanity in a manner
that will have an impact for decades to come. We must accelerate our
efforts to remove the stains of prejudice and injustice from the
fabric of society.”

From the Same Dust is sponsored by the Local Spiritual Assembly of the
Baha’is of Wauwatosa. The LSA asks for your prayerful support of this

opportunities to work with and have meaningful conversations with

Children and youth actors needed for “The Wonder of Atoms”, a play
written by Diane Johnson. Diane and Kathy Wurzer will co-direct the
production.

We need children and youth ages 6-16. Invite your friends! No
experience is needed.

The play will be rehearsed at the home of Sarahi Monterrey in
Waukesha. There will be 8 rehearsals the first 3
weeks in October.

The performance will be held at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the
Arts in Brookfield on Sunday, October 22. Participants must be
available for rehearsal that day at the center prior to the
performance.

A meeting at 10 am Saturday, August 19 at the Monterrey home will be
held to determine who will participate in the play. All interested
should be at that meeting. Bring your calendars to determine the
rehearsal dates.

Calling all graphic artists. Dear artist friends, can you assist a
good cause?

“From the Same Dust,” a Baha’i group in Milwaukee cluster sponsored by
the Spiritual Assembly of Wauwatosa, needs a logo. We have
co-sponsored several events with the Zeidler Center and other groups.
Each group has their name and logo on the event program and poster,
but we have thus far only been listed by our name. Several new events
are in the planning stages. Help us step up our image so that next
time, we’ll have something that tells people who we are.

We are soliciting sketches and suggestions for a logo. It should be
scalable and suitable for use on both letterhead and posters. It
should ideally include our name, “From the Same Dust,” and the
tagline, “A Baha’i group.” It should represent in some way either our
purpose: to stimulate and animate a diverse and welcoming community,
or the principle that all of humanity is created from the same dust,
or give a sense of unity in diversity. Yet it needs to be small,
simple, and dignified. Some examples of logos are included below* to
give you an idea of what we are looking for. Sometimes, color and font
style alone convey the message of the group, sometimes an image adds
weight and balance.

We hope to have a logo ready by mid-September to be able to use it in
our co-sponsorship of a talk in early October. Anyone with interest in
this project could send us notice of their interest and preliminary
ideas by August 15th. We will promptly respond to any and all
suggestions.
