view the art work of African American artists. Enjoy!

Forwarded message:

Greetings!

Just sending you this reminder that Citywide Gallery Night and Day is
next week Friday, April 26, 2019, from 5:30 until 9 P.M. and Saturday
27th, 12 noon until 2 P.M.

I invite you to join us and bring your family and friends to King
Drive Commons Gallery and Studio of African Diaspora Culture.
The event will feature our prolific artist Dr. Jerry Butler, of UW Madison, who
will present a lecture on some of the African American visual artists
throughout the centuries. Also on exhibit is artwork shown by of some
of our high school students which we endeavor to recognize and
encourage their aspirations.

For those whose have been to the gallery know it encompasses more than
just viewing artwork on a wall, it exhibits living artistry and
culture! Our Friday night is more energizing and exciting while
Saturday is more relaxed, however, both are nourishing to one’s spirit
and inspiring. So join us for an exciting exhibit during our tenth
year of celebrating our achievements.

Hope to see you there!

Local Activities

East side devotional:
A friendly discussion and devotional meeting is held every Wednesday at Brewed Café, 1208 E. Brady Street at 2pm.

Cluster Reflection Gathering:
Save the date: May 18th, 10:00 a.m. Wauwatosa Public Library Firefly Room

Strengthening the Virtues Within:
Would you like to join a new group coming together to inspire the practice of virtues in everyday life? Would you like to experience the unifying effects of focusing on those qualities that make us human -the qualities that are the very best of what humans are and aspire to? Join us each month as we focus on a virtue and share with one another how it transforms our lives. Learn strategies for using these virtues to create safer, more caring, more supportive and effective families and communities. Come to one, come to all. The gatherings are designed for ages 10 to 100. Give yourself the gift of growing bonds of friendship while we celebrate what we have in common. All meetings are held at the Cedarburg Library, usually the last Monday of each month at 6:30pm. The topic for April 29 will be Mindfulness.

Recent Activities

We had 50 to 60 guests at the Alverno College Naw Rúz celebration and the Ayyam-i-Ha party at UWM Union. It was great to see so many young adults enjoying each other’s company, meet many groups of guests, and visit with old acquaintances.

There were over 50 attendees also at a recent Baha’i-sponsored panel discussion and Jim Crow exhibit at the King Drive Commons Gallery and Studio. Many new contacts were made by From the Same Dust, a Baha’i group, and ongoing planning meetings are exploring further collaborations together with esteemed members of the African American community.

Last year we had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Shay Rozen, historian of Israeli Baha’i history. At Naw Rúz, he sent us a beautiful card (on display at our Naw Rúz party). He also shared this story:

“Dear friends, Although I sent you the New Year’s greeting, I want to share with you a beautiful experience. On New-ruz, the 21st of march 2019, A large wave of butterflies (Vanessa cardui to those who are interested), estimated by the researchers, at about one billion individuals, pass Israel from the deserts of Sadia-Arabia to Europe. What a beautiful sight of spring and what an expression of the desire to bring beauty and happiness to the world, what is to me, The essence of the Bahá’í faith.”
